Fashion IS America

Fashion IS America

I had the pleasure of seeing a beautiful, informative fashion exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, called, 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion'.  "The Costume Institute's In America: An Anthology of Fashion is the second portion of a two-part exhibition exploring fashion in the United States. Presented in collaboration with The Met's American Wing, this section of the exhibition will highlight sartorial narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of the American Wing period rooms." This exhibit informs us about how fashion influenced Americans since its inception through the 20th Century. As well the amazing fashion houses stateside like Brooks Brothers and many others. The curators also explored the contributions of former slaves and immigrants' craftsmanship (see images). Yet again we see how a menagerie of people and cultures contributed to the growth of industry in America. The Costume Institute, also explores the designs, shapes, and textures of modern designers that are making their mark in the 21st century.

This show is a must see. Here are a few images of garments that peaked my interests, the plethora of other garments you have to see for yourself.
