Soulivity spent time talking with multi-talented writer/producer Dwayne Cochran-Johnson! The Chicago born writer and producer recently wrote and executive produced the upcoming Paramount+ and Showtime film, Heist 88 that stars multi-award-winning actor Courtney B. Vance and is produced by Vance and his wife, multi-award-winning actress, Angela Bassett under the Bassett Vance Productions banner. Interestingly, he worked as a cameraman and journalist for WTTW-Chicago local news in during the early stages of his career, where he covered the story of the largest bank heist in history that took place in the 1980’s, in which four young, black, bank employees were enticed by robber and conman “Jeremy Horne” to rob the bank they worked at for $80M dollars! Johnson-Cochran grew so engrossed in the plot that a he wrote the screenplay for the film Heist 88, which is loosely based on the story, but not a non-fiction project. Heist 88 has debuted exclusively on Paramount+ on September 29th and has its linear debut on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT on October 1st.
With 1.3 million views across platforms, Heist 88 is the highest-ranking Showtime original film of 2023!
Past projects include, but not limited to: Johnson-Cochran is the co-creator of NBC hit series "Minor Adjustments." Johnson-Cochran's directing debut was the independently produced film "Love and Action in Chicago" featured Kathleen Turner, Courtney B. Vance, Jason Alexander, Regina King and Ed Asner. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and was sold to HBO. Johnson-Cochran's documentary "Side by Side-The Story of the 50/50 Group of Sierra Leone," was executive produced by former Secretary of State Madeline K. Albright and actress/director Regina King and appears on National Democratic Institute (NDI) YouTube channel.
