DT: Kelly, we have known each other for quite some time, since college. I remember you as the campus barber and the guy with an amazing collection of sneakers.  How has hip hop culture influenced your creativity?

KG: When I discovered hip hop, it was in the early 80s on the West Coast. And when my family moved to the East Coast, I was really drawn to it. There is an energy of hip-hop through everything that I do in all my businesses; it's a huge part of my life.

DT: When and where did you start HiPost?

KG: HiPost was born on October 15, 1993, in NYC on the lower east side. I used the money I intended to buy a  car to open the business that was a live/workspace. That began my entrepreneurial journey.

DT: I know you were trained as a graphic designer. How do design and graffiti influence your logo?

KG:  I love "graffiti," and it's an element of hip-hop. And it is incorporated in my current logo and has always been. My logo has had many iterations. I think it speaks to all my clientele.

DT:  How do you see your brand expanding? HiPost speaks to many generations, is that your intention?

KG: I see it expanding by letting go of the reigns and letting younger creatives help grow our market share. Also, staying true to the brand's DNA.

DT: What great lesson would you tell your younger self?

KG: I would say 'stay with it, don't get discouraged!'

DT: How's the book project coming along? First, let me say I loved what you showed me, a great concept!!

KG: I am shooting the pages for the book; it's a creative process and a strong point of view.

DT: Finish this sentence; the shift I would like to see in the world is

KG: "more satisfaction, fulfillment, being more connected and not just through the material elements of life."
