George Kyriakos and I met almost 20 years ago on the set of an editorial shoot. Ironically, on our days off, we would end up at the same cafe in SOHO (Once Upon A Tart) in NYC working on personal projects. We both had other passions we were nurturing from producing creative projects, tv, and film. So, I consider George a kindred spirit..He is an acclaimed hair stylist who has been in the industry for over 20 years; and the founder and creator of stylebookings.com. He began his career in New York City working for top fashion magazines such as American Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, W, Allure, Glamour, and many others..DT: George, thank you for agreeing to talk to me. Last time I saw you, you and Vincent Longo were launching StyleBookings. What are you currently working on?.GK: I am currently working on set with advertising, fashion and editorial clients. I am currently being repped by Honey Artists..It's inspiring, creative, and very invigorating to be around young innovative talents and at the end of the day making people in my chair feel better..Also, I feel you have to see the big picture, always be conscious of your energy that you bring on set…that's one of the biggest lessons I've learned.DT: Let's back track a little. How long have you been a hairstylist?.GK: I have been a hairstylist since [I was] 17 years old and started doing makeup when I was 23 years old..No matter how long I've been doing this, I learn something every day. Also, being a seasoned artist, you know how to get out of difficult situations..DT: You have worked with some iconic talents close over two decades. How do they inspire you and your craft?.GK: When I meet people in the arts, their talent inspires me whether they are musicians, actors, or running major companies..DT: What are three major hair tips that you can give our Soulivity readers?.GK: My first hair tip is, "don't over wash your hair, you strip it of the natural oils.".Second, "be careful not to over process hair, keeping it trimmed and not overly cutting.".Last, "get regular haircuts and trims." It will keep the hair healthy. I'd also add, my one pet peeve is razor cuts on natural hair, it destroys the hair shaft.DT: Often people don't think of men's grooming, what are your favorite men's grooming products?.GK: My favorite brand is called Crew, it is a full men's grooming line with excellent products..DT: Who are your style icons, muses, etc?.GK: My style icons are women like Caroline Bisset and Kerry Washington, both are classic beauties, talented, and personable..DT: What are you most grateful for?.GK: I am most grateful for my family and friends; they are my support system. They keep me going and grounded..You can find out more about George Kyriakos by following him on Instagram:.@georgekyriakos.@stylebookings
