UpClose: Elizabeth Meredith, Celebrity Costume Designer and Wardrobe Stylist
Elizabeth Meredith is a renowned celebrity stylist and costume designer for the TV and Film Industry. She has been working with celebrities, men, and women for over 2 decades to bring out their very best to the silver screen and the red carpet.
The Los Angeles native has already solidified a name as a creative and innovative artist, strategist, and collaborator among well-respected artists in the industry. Not only has she worked in Los Angeles, but is bi-coastal in New York City; and, has brought her expertise to London, Paris, [cities in] Italy, Miami, and Atlanta, as well. Her credits have been with world-known networks, such as Netflix, ABC, CBS, NBC, Amazon, Bravo, E, Fox, FX, HBO, and many more. Her styling credits have been sought out by fashion powerhouses, such as GQ, Elle, Shape, Marie Claire, People, People Espanol, People Style Watch, US, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Fab Fit Fun, Teen Vogue, and many more. Elizabeth has also appeared as an on-camera stylist for WETV, NBC, and TLC, as the style commentator for the Oscars. As a costume designer, her unique and keen eye has been displayed in modern-day, period, sci-fi, futuristic shows, and commercials. She currently did a show with producer and powerhouse, Will Packer, and has done over 25 worldwide commercials to date.
Elizabeth also specializes in red carpet styling; and, in addition to image consulting for both men and women, her client list includes Chrissy Teigen, Patricia Arquette, The Rock, Will Smith, Eva Longoria, Daniel Kaluuya, T.I, Josh Duhamel, Marlon Wayans, Lebron James, Lindsey Vonn, and the Late Kobe Bryant. She continues to create buzz for her clientele with fashion-forward and avant-garde looks; garnering them numerous accolades in publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, People “Style Watch”, W Magazine, Who What Wear, Fashion Bomb Daily, US Magazine—just to name a few.
Elizabeth was sought after by Netflix to design the soon to be released, “Love Story,” and recently traveled the world for Amazon’s adventurous new show, “The Pack.” She prides herself on being able to take on any creative challenge in the Industry and lend her talent to create the best look possible for every occasion.

DT: Who inspired you to be a stylist?
EM: After a few months of assisting, I met my mentor, Robert Mata, in my first movie, “Muhammed Ali,” starring Will Smith. Robert was so professional, present, and asked me to assist him with shopping for Will Smith and The Rock on other projects.
He was also so gracious with passing on assignments to me and have immense appreciation for him. Robert gave me wings and confidence to branch out on my own.
He gifted me with my first movie that Will Smith was producing called, “Ride or Die.” It really showed my strength and diversity in dressing all body types. As you can see from bio, all clients are different; and, my team and I must cater to their specific needs. I love a challenge.
DT: What are some of your favorite looks and or silhouettes?
EM: For men, I’m drawn to a very modern, well-cut suits. For instance, I love a Tom Ford Tuxedo; it works on all body types, from The Rock to Brad Pitt to Kobe Bryant*.
For women, I’m drawn to a well-fitted avant-garde or modern looks, especially for [the] red carpet, no matter your age. For instance, Jane Fonda’s stylist always gives her a modern look. Just always have size options and make sure sizing is current. Always think ahead.
DT: How important is your personal style?
EM: It is SOOOOO important. It really conveys who I am as a person and in my profession. Your style is your calling card.
DT: Describe to our readers, what a “prep day” is like for you?
EM: Usually, we start at the production office or office with one to three assistants. I do a visual print out for assistants before we go shopping for each character or person. We can go up to five to seven stores a day all over the Los Angeles area (or city I’m working in). Organization is key…you could be doing over four celebrities for one award show. Also, setting appointments and connecting with showrooms, or high-end stores and boutiques.
DT: What great lesson would you share with aspiring stylists?
EM: First, be clear about what you want to do. Try it all, so you can get clear whether you want to be a stylist or costume designer. Then, “zero in” on what makes you the happiest.
It’s important to assist, grow your business, get an agent, work on set, and be willing to do the work. Even doing free work for a limited time is a good idea. Take courses and learn what it takes to work in different genres.
DT: What inspires you?
EM: I am inspired by clothing, it’s a high for me to see the new collections and being the best I possibly can be.
DT: Finish this sentence, “the shift I would like to see in the world is…”
EM: “…happiness and peace amongst all human beings.”
DT: I know you are a practicing Buddhist, how does your practice center you in such an ego-driven business?
EM: It helps me to be the best version of myself. It helps me to see the Buddha in everyone, even if we disagree on core issues.
It helps me inject positivity into my team and clients. I want them to feel good and get inspired.
