DT: I met you when you were 19 years old at the photographer, Ezequiel De la Rosa’s studio. I believe it was a bridal shoot/editorial. It truly was love at first sight; you were beyond your years.
You have included me in many milestones in your life, including your family experiences, such as your big sister’s wedding. You have always been my biggest cheerleader and I so appreciate it deeply.
DT: Let’s explore your journey as a “style expert”.How long have you been a ‘style expert”? I love your style “under $100” posts. what inspired that?
JM: I’ve been a “style expert” a little over 8 years.
I always shopped by price point, which I learned from my mom (Joy Mangano); and, you still can find quality. Finding purchases under $100 was manageable to me, especially when I was in school and or modeling…so, I wanted to share it with my followers.
DT: In a business where “image” is key, share some of your favorite fashion brands?
JM: Some of my favorites are Zara, Asos, and H&M. I am discovering a lot with Amazon with their affordable fashions, which is great.
DT: How important are fashion trends for you?
JM: I believe in buying what works for you. I have to love the piece that’s trendy in 5 years.
DT: Since it’s a new decade, where do you see your brand expanding?
JM: I hope to expand more into a bigger lifestyle brand, embracing affordability and style.
DT: What great lesson would you share with younger people?
JM: I think hard work and action, creates more action and opportunities.
DT: What inspires you?
JM: I really am inspired by style. It influences how I travel, shop, and being inspired by stylist things all around me.
DT: Finish this sentence, “the shift I would like to see in the world is…”
JM: “…more positivity, appreciation for the life we get to live, and gratitude.”
DT: Also, you’ve hosted on various entertainment media outlets, and currently, a host on Amazon. Does this influence your style choices?
JM: Yes, it does influence my style choices. Being on camera, you look at the wardrobe differently. I’ve embraced more prints, colors, and silhouettes. And, I love the vibrancy; it adds to our audience experiences.
DT: Meeting and working with Christian Siriano on Project Runway, I’m sure has been a highlight in your career. How has your friendship grown personally and professionally?
JM: Christian and I are the same age and have gone through our personal and professional growth together. I feel very connected to his process and honored to be his friend.
He has dressed me for the major events in my life from award shows to my wedding.
DT: Do you want your own line and or brand? If so, what would it be?
JM: Yes, as mentioned before, that would be the natural progression of what I want to offer to the world. So, it would be a clothing line and lifestyle brand. Definitely, a dream of mine.
DT: Thank you for sharing style and passion!
