Hidden-Gem Destinations for Adventurous RVers

People who love RVing on the open roads are always one great route away from their next adventure. But sometimes, the destinations on your itinerary are only scratching the surface of the hidden treasures around every corner. Luckily, we're here to help you expand that itinerary by revealing our favorite hidden-gem destinations for adventurous RVers. We're confident you'll find a locale here that's worthy of your bucket list. So take a moment to discover the secret beauty these destinations have in store for you.

Hanging Lake

Located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Hanging Lake has long been regarded as a true testament to the natural beauty of the American landscape. Nestled comfortably off I-70, Hanging Lake offers visitors a gorgeous mile-long hike through idyllic evergreen forests and unique natural stone formations.

As a reward for trekking the whole mile, hikers will also experience the famed lake itself. Fed by a natural spring, the waters of Hanging Lakes are crystal clear. In fact, they're so transparent that this naturally occurring body of water appears photoshopped to some patrons.

If that's not enough to entice you, the edge of Hanging Lake appears to "hang" off a steep cliffside on one end, hence the name) So if capping an incredible hike with an astonishing view of the valley below sounds appealing, Hanging Lake is a destination to add to your list.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park

As you're preparing for your next cross-country RV trip, consider adding Carlsbad Caverns National Park to your list of destinations. Just a couple of hours south of Roswell, New Mexico, these world-renowned caverns offer an otherworldly experience you have to see to believe. Carlsbad Caverns offers visitors an exciting trek through an expansive labyrinth of tunnels. Peppered with towering stalagmite and stalactite formations, this national park is home to more than 100 limestone caves waiting to be explored.

If spelunking isn't your thing, Carlsbad is also home to a healthy number of beautiful above-ground hiking trails. If you visit between May and October, you can participate in the Bat Flight Program, a free nightly event that gives you front-row seats to bats flying from their cave home en masse.

Watkins Glen State Park

Last on our list of hidden-gem destinations for adventurous RVers is the unmatchable beauty that is Watkins Glen State Park. Concealed in the gorgeous landscape of upstate New York, Watkins Glen features an incredible 400-foot stream that cascades through a gorge and tumbles down 19 waterfalls along the way. Like many other idyllic destinations, Watkins Glen allows visitors to experience its unique, fairy-like hiking trails. The park is also home to some of the most excellent fishing spots in the state, with a few close to Seneca Lake and Catherine Creek. So if you're looking for an incredible location with breathtaking wilderness, cascading water features, and storybook views, look no further than Watkins Glen National Park.
